Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas, also called Ashanti was born on 13 October of 1980, in Glen Cove New York United States. She is an American singer as well as songwriter. Ashanti began her professional career as a teenager, and was eventually signed to Murder Inc. Records by 2002. Ashanti was featured in the Fat Joe's What's Luv? Ja Rule's track, Always On Time as well as Fat Joe's What's luv? Tina Douglas was her mother and Ken Kaide Thomas Douglas had before performed as a vocalist. The Kenashia Shia family is their youngest sister. Douglas chose the name Ashanti Shia Douglas to honor the Ashanti Empire from Ghana where women were powerful and influential. Douglas wanted Ashantis to follow this example.
